A Consultative Body for SEZs Is Planned to Be Established under the CIS Executive Committee

This initiative was discussed by participants of an online meeting that brought together representatives of SEZs and FEZs in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The SEZs of the Astrakhan Region were represented by the Management Company of the Caspian Cluster. Employees of the CIS Executive Committee and a representative of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the CIS also took part in the discussion.

 Mikhail Myskin, Director of the Economic Cooperation Department of the CIS Executive Committee, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, emphasizing that the development of special economic zones is currently being actively explored within various integration structures. He also noted that the CIS Executive Committee, together with the member states of the Commonwealth, is carrying out systematic work to promote and popularize such zones.

 The initiative to establish a consultative body under the CIS Executive Committee, proposed by Mogilev FEZ, was supported by representatives of other economic zones. During the meeting, participants agreed that the new body would facilitate the exchange of management practices. In addition, a proposal was made to organize sector-specific contact exchanges for tenants and to create a common database of investment projects – it is intended to simplify the search for partners and the exchange of information across the CIS.

 It should be recalled that SEZ Lotus JSC is actively developing cooperation with other SEZs, including those within the CIS area.

 “We have signed cooperation agreements with a number of economic zones in Belarus, as well as with FEZ Hazarasp of Uzbekistan. We are interested in exchanging experience, ideas and proposals with our colleagues from the CIS countries and are confident that the initiative under discussion will contribute to this,” commented Andrey Nalimov, Deputy Director General of SEZ Lotus JSC.
